Journal Publication Causes Media Stir

Dr. Sijo Parekattil’s recent publication in the October 2009 edition of the Journal of Endourology, Video Technique of Robotic Vasovasostomy, was the subject of much discussion in the national and international press. Dr. Parekattil, Assistant Professor and Director of Male Infertility & Microsurgery, is offering the academic urology community the first head-to-head comparison of robot-assisted vasectomy reversal and the widely-used microscope procedure. The results of his year-long study indicate that sperm count after surgery is comparable over a year for the two procedures, but the robotic procedure appears to result in a quicker rebound time for sperm count and close to 20 fewer minutes in surgery. The study’s findings were the subject of two Gainesville Sun stories, were covered by ScienceDaily, one of the internet’s most popular science news web sites with more than 3 million monthly visitors, the UK’s Register, UroToday, Urology Match and Current Opinion in Urology.
