Department of Urology
Urology Residency Training Program
Resources and Services
Books
There is no dedicated funding for textbooks, although in the past our pharmaceutical and equipment representatives have been very gracious. Prior to the end of residency, most residents have contributed to Campbell's Urology, Textbook of Genitourinary Oncology, Hinman Atlas of Urologic Surgery, Glenn's Urology, Smith's General Urology, Uroradiology Text.
Our residents' membership to the American Urologic Association will be paid. Additionally, residents receive subscriptions to AUA Updates, The Journal of Urology, Urology Gold Journal, as well as the Journal of Endourology.
Lab Coats/Beepers
Alphanumeric state-wide beepers are issued at no expense to the resident. Residents receive 2 lab coats for General Surgery for which laundering is your responsibility, and 3 for Urology, for which laundering is provided.
Loopes
Loopes have not proven to be a necessity, and are not provided.
Research
Currently there is no dedicated research time. There is a considerable amount of basic science as well as clinical research ongoing. We have one full time PhD who staffs our lab. Resident experience has varied with their career goals. All residents are responsible for completing a research project for each year of their Urology training, which should achieve a level worthy of publication in the Southeastern section of the AUA. We own our own digital camera and LCD projector to assist in presentations.
