This year’s Visiting Professor Events and our UroGators Fall Alumni gathering was a time for celebration and honoring the memory of a pioneer.
On Nov. 6-7, the University of Florida Department of Urology hosted its third-annual David M. Drylie, MD Visiting Professorship Lecture & UroGators Alumni Weekend. At the Nov. 6 evening reception held at the University of Florida’s Harn Museum of Art, about 120 former and current faculty, former and current residents and fellows, family and friends gathered as we honored the memory of Dr. Dana Moody. Dr. Moody, who passed away on Sept. 2, was the first female resident of the UF Urology program. Her husband, Dr. Rodney Moody and their daughter Emily were on hand as UF Urology Interim Chair Dr. Tom Stringer, along with the four current female urology residents, presented a gift and flowers to her husband and daughter. Mary Elizabeth, their eldest daughter, was unable to attend.
“Dana was a pioneer in our program – she was a groundbreaker,”
Dr. Stringer said. “Her memory will always live on
with us in this department.”
Earlier in the day, Dr. Shlomo Raz (Professor, Department of Urology Chief, Division of Female Urology, Reconstructive Surgery and Urodynamics, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA) presented at Grand Rounds as the David M. Drylie Visiting Professor. He spent the day with faculty and working with residents. He too was honored at the evening reception.
On Nov. 7, the UroGators tailgate got the day started in the Plaza of Americas hours before UF faced Vanderbilt in football for homecoming. The game proved to be closer than expected with a 9-7 UF win. The win did earn UF the SEC East Championship and a berth in the SEC Title Game to be played on Dec. 5 in Atlanta.
“I want to thank everyone who took time out of their schedules to be with us on this memorable weekend,” Dr. Stringer said. “It is weekends like this that reminds me how important our training and heritage is to so many. I see many of you at conferences throughout the year, but this annual event is distinctly UF Urology. For those who could not make it this year, I truly hope you make every effort to make it back next year. We will always have a dynamic and relevant visiting professor, and, of course, it is the perfect place to rekindle old memories with old friends.”
