TV20’s Alex Calamia Grows A Beard for No Shave November!

At the beginning of November, TV20’s Alex Calamia pledged to let his beard grow. In doing so, he hoped to bring awareness to Men’s Health issues. Men are less likely to go to a doctor than a woman, which is part of the spark for the initiative.

Dr. Padraic O’Malley is a UF Health Oncologist. He is growing a mustache for “Movember” along with other men in his department. The UF Health Urology department have a Movember shave party every year at the end of November. They have raised about 10-thousand dollars for charity over the years.

Whether young or old, men should keep in mind cancers that are specific to them. Dr. O’Malley says 1 in every 9 men will get prostate cancer – many of those men will be middle age or older.   Testicular cancer is less common but occurs in much younger men – who are usually in their 20s.
