UF Department of Urology Receives $500,000 Pledge for Bladder Cancer Research

DR SERGEI KUSMARTSEV

A pledge of $500,000 to support bladder cancer research in the Department of Urology has recently been made by the board members of the 1923 Fund.

This gift will go to support a bladder cancer research initiative headed by Sergei Kusmartsev, PhD. The UF Urology research team will examine ways bladder cancer cells avoid the body’s immune system.  Bladder cancer cells are known to produce signals that trick our body’s immune cells allowing cancer cells to thrive.  This research aims to improve the treatment of bladder cancer via immunotherapy to boost the immune system’s response against cancer cells.

Congratulations to Dr. Kusmartsev and his team for securing funding for this very important research initiative!
