Mr. Bergen Lemack a senior undergraduate student at the University of Florida College of Medicine, who’s been working in the UF Department of Urology Basic Science Laboratory since 2019, was awarded a 2021 Summer Student Scholarship through the Endourological Society.

His project entitled, “Investigations of a novel tea leaf for kidney stone disease prevention” will involve testing the concentration of oxalate from commercial tea products with and without a novel tea leaf that can degrade oxalate. If these leaves are able to lower the amount of oxalate in hot or cold teas, a therapy could be developed to allow kidney stone formers to drink tea without the risk of stone formation.

Please join us in congratulating Bergen, and good luck with your project!
