4th Resident Expansion: A New Chapter for the Urology Residency Program

Jason P. Joseph, MD
Program Director, Urology Residency

We are thrilled to announce that the UF Urology residency program has received ACGME approval to expand to four residents per year, beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year!

This milestone reflects our commitment to providing an exceptional training experience while fostering a supportive environment that prioritizes resident well-being. With this expansion, we aim to optimize clinical workload balance, enhance access to educational opportunities, and create a residency experience that empowers residents to excel in all aspects of their training.

For those applying in the 2025 Urology Match, we will offer three positions as originally planned. However, we are excited to fill the newly approved fourth position through the Urology Secondary Match, giving an additional candidate the opportunity to join our program for the 2025-2026 academic year. Beginning with the 2026 Match, we will formally offer four positions annually.

This expansion is about more than just increasing our numbers—it’s about elevating the overall residency experience. By redistributing clinical workloads, residents will have more time to focus on their education, refine their surgical skills, fully engage with broader learning opportunities, and benefit from a fortified mentorship model.

Interested in joining a program that combines innovation, camaraderie, and a commitment to excellence in urology education? Applications for this position through the Urology Secondary Match open at 9:00 AM EST on January 29, 2025, via AAMC/ERAS. Application reviews will begin on January 30, with interview offers sent shortly thereafter. Formal offers to fill the position will begin as soon as February 3 at 9:00 AM EST, immediately following the release of the Urology Match results.

“The entire faculty and residents are ecstatic about this landmark achievement for our outstanding residency training program. I am so proud of our team,” said Li-Ming Su, MD, chair of the University of Florida Department of Urology.

For detailed guidance on how to apply, please refer to the AAMC/SAU/AUA guide and checklist for the Secondary Urology Match.

We are excited to welcome another talented and motivated resident to our team through the Secondary Match!
