Tarik Benidir, M.D., was honored last week at the University of Florida College of Medicine’s annual Spring Faculty Assembly.
Benidir, a clinical assistant professor in the department, received a college-level Rising Star Award, which is given to an exceptional early-career clinical faculty member. Recipients of the award, chosen from a field of department-level awardees across the College of Medicine, are selected in recognition of their enthusiasm and dedication to patient care.
Li-Ming Su, M.D., chair of the Department of Urology and the Pete and Carolyn Newsome Endowed Chair of Urologic Oncology, said one of the most rewarding parts of leadership is witnessing the growth and success of faculty in the department.
“Dr. Benidir is a shining example of a bright, inquisitive, motivated and ambitious urologic surgeon and scientist who will no doubt be a thought leader in the field of prostate cancer care,” Su said. “I am extremely pleased that he has been recognized as a UF COM Rising Star.”
Benidir, who recently named co-chair and clinical lead of the UF Health Cancer Institute’s new cancer and engineering work group, said the University of Florida’s culture of mentorship has fostered an environment where junior faculty can learn, collaborate and expand their clinical and research skillsets.
“The top-down mentorship from both the Cancer Institute and the Department of Urology has allowed me to expand my interest and clinical expertise through innovative techniques, clinical trials, registries and multi-institutional collaborations which I hope will continue to optimize care for our cancer patients,” Benidir said.
Also recognized at the assembly was professor of urology Alex Gomelsky, M.D., associate chair of clinical affairs and chief of urogynecology & reconstructive pelvic surgery. Gomelsky received the department-level clinical excellence award in recognition of his continued excellence in clinical care, advancement in clinical innovation and impact on patients, staff, peers and trainees.
