Outstanding Urology Faculty: Unparalleled Clinical Expertise and Compassion

The Department of Urology faculty is comprised of outstanding clinicians and surgeons who have all received advanced fellowship training, covering a wide range of urologic subspecialization in efforts to provide the most up to date treatments for our patient population. I am proud to serve next to such thoughtful, experienced, compassionate and credible individuals who are all committed to providing each patient with attentive and personalized care.

Clinical Care: Innovative and Multidisciplinary Patient-Centered Care

UF Urology provides the best in urologic patient care to more than 20,000 patients each year. We subscribe to and provide a multidisciplinary approach to some of the most challenging urologic disorders by combining the expertise of physicians from many specialties within UF Health, all with the common goal of providing the best patient-centered care. Often these visits can be coordinated to allow for comprehensive review of a patient’s urologic condition all in one visit to UF Health. We also provide a wide array of nonsurgical as well as surgical treatments ranging from active surveillance, percutaneous, endoscopic, laparoscopic, robotic and open surgery. We also incorporate the latest imaging technologies for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes such as multiparametric prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) scan, multi-phase computed tomography (CT) scan, as well as nuclear renal and bone scan.

Education: Training World-Class Leaders

UF Urology is committed to training world-class clinicians and academic urologists through its medical student, residency and advanced fellowship training programs. Our educational programs have garnered national recognition for providing a superior education and training experience in a comprehensive array of subspecialty areas. Not only are our trainees exposed to academic urology, we also provide a unique exposure to a private urologic practice as well as practice in a Veterans Affairs hospital setting. Two-thirds of our residency graduates have gone on to complete advanced fellowship training in subspecialties such as urologic oncology, female urology, male infertility, reconstructive urology and pediatric urology at world renowned urologic centers throughout the United States.

Research: Bringing Discoveries from Bench to Bedside

The Department of Urology has a history of receiving substantial NIH and federal funding. We also hold a NIDDK sponsored T32 training research grant in benign urologic diseases to help develop research fellows in the skills required for a successful academic career in urologic research. Our researchers and clinicians pursue innovative advances in basic, clinical, and translational research, with the ultimate goal of improving patient care. Some of our specific research includes studying the immune system response to renal stone formation, modeling the effect of gastric bypass surgery on kidney stone disease in animal models, investigating oxalate metabolism, identifying risk factors for uric acid stone formation, immunotherapy and immune system escape by urologic cancers, clinical trials for advanced bladder and kidney cancer, multiparametric MRI targeting of prostate cancer and differentiating kidney tumor subtype using novel optical imaging technologies.
