Urology Advocacy Summit: A Mentor and Mentee Tradition

At the 2023 American Urological Association (AUA) meeting in Chicago, the University of Florida urology residency program had an excellent showing with multiple residents presenting their research. Residents were able to enjoy all the AUA meeting had to offer by presenting their own research, attending plenary and breakout sessions, visiting the exhibit hall, and socializing with new and old friends.
We recently had the opportunity to attend the 2023 American Urology Association (AUA) Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C. We also were fortunate enough to be sponsored by the Southeastern Section (SESAUA) of the AUA, which more recently has maintained a concerted focus on the involvement of young and future urologists in advocacy.
The University of Florida Department of Urology was represented by Dr. Tom Stringer, Dr. Elizabeth Kwenda, Mitsu Andre P.A. and Jasmine Brown P.A. at a Power over Prostate Cancer Gathering held at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Gainesville on Feb. 11.
Samsun Lampotang, Ph.D, FSSH, FAIMBE, and Thomas Stringer, M.D., FACS, have been awarded a grant from the Florida Department of Health Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program to build and verify a 3D perspective visualization guidance system for use with prostate biopsy equipment at the UF Urology Clinic.Â
