San Diego was the latest venue for the annual UF/UroGators AUA reception. The event was highlighted by great food, drink and conversation in a relaxed atmosphere of Orange and Blue. As usual, the room was filled with UroGators spanning generations, as well as AUA dignitaries. This celebration of our heritage as urologists expands in numbers each year and supports our mission of enhanced fellowship and camaraderie between current and former residents, fellows and faculty. As UroGators, we are also patrons of the resident education fund and serve as advisors and supporters of the UF Department of Urology.
Drs. Li Ming Su, Johannes Vieweg and myself addressed attendees with a brief introduction of faculty members and residents, as well as a presentation of the Department’s accomplishments over the last year. We are proud, again, to be one of the top 20 urologic programs in the country.
As an alumni society, we continue to participate in and support the annual February CME event at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando. This year’s course was entitled “High Impact Urology for the Practicing Clinician.” In addition, we will again present our UroGator Alumni plaques at the graduation ceremony in June. Our two newest UroGators are Dr. Blake Evans who joined his father, Dr. Bill Evans, in group practice in Fort Myers, and Dr. Diana Kang who was selected for a fellowship at UCLA in female reconstructive urology.
The UF Department of Urology and the UroGators Alumni Society announced in San Diego the Inaugural Visiting Professorship Weekend to be held November 8 – 9, 2013. We are privileged to have Dr. Peter Scardino from Memorial Sloan Kettering as our first visiting professor. This event has been a coveted and recognized educational milestone for UF Urology. This goal was realized as a result of significant contributions made by many of you. This is our UF Homecoming Weekend and will include a tailgate and football game on Saturday as well as Grand Rounds and a special dinner event on Friday. The details of the event will be available shortly.
I hope to see many of you soon. Remember to support your alumni society with your time, participation and annual contributions that serve to enhance our mission to serve urologic education at UF.
Sincerely,
Tom Stringer
